The lamps in the stores are made mostly in mundane geometric shapes and are mass produced in a factory. It is not very easy to buy a beautiful, handmade artistic lamp. An attendant suggested to Master that if She could design some lamps, the Quan Yin messengers who are good at carpentry could make them.

The Supreme Master Ching Hai agreed and designed many lamps on paper while explaining the details to the Quan Yin messengers. With the joint efforts of Master and Her disciples, several elegant and uniquely styled lamps, with Chinese knots hanging from the sides, were created. Master has called these lamps Longevity Lamps, symbolizing the Eternal Light.
